About 3 years ago I had a friend tell me about the amazing health benefits of amber. I’d seen her baby wearing an amber teething necklace and I’d wondered if it really worked.
“It does!” she said. “You should try it, too! I’ve read that people use amber bracelets for arthritis.”
As it turned out, several of my friends used amber necklaces on their babies. So I figured there might be something to this claim. And with the amount of severe pain I experience every day, I was willing to try it.
ANYTHING that helped me avoid putting more medication in my body than absolutely necessary.
So I did my research to find out more.
What is Amber?
Amber is fossilized tree resin. It’s a natural pain reliever, anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory. it also helps restore energy and maintain wellness. When amber comes in contact with the skin, it releases trace amounts of healing oils, the most beneficial being succinic acid.
Baltic amber has been used as a remedy for teething discomfort in Europe for hundreds of years. That’s why amber is sometimes called “teething beads.” The lighter the color, the higher the amount of succinic acid the amber contains.
Baltic Amber has been used by many to relieve arthritis pain and carpal tunnel syndrome. Amber bracelets are particularly helpful for alleviating hand pain when worn on the wrists. Because the bracelet must be in constant contact with the skin, it is best worn as snugly as much as possible, even overnight.
Trying it for Myself
I ordered an amber bracelet from the company Inspired by Finn, the same company all my friends had gotten their teething necklaces from. I was impressed by the different products this company offered. Not only did Inspired by Finn hand-make baltic amber necklaces and bracelets, they also sell hazelwood necklaces and gemstones jewelry that help with a host of different health problems.
I got just one and was very excited when it came in the mail. I put it on and wore it for only about 2 hours before I noticed less pain in that particular hand.
I was so impressed I ended up ordering three more!
Could it Just be the Placebo Effect?
Since then I’ve had people speculate whether the amber was really helping relieve the pain or if my results were due to some sort of placebo effect.
Although I admit I have no scientific proof as to whether or not the amber really helps, I am pretty sure it must be helping. I’ve reached this conclusion primarily because I’ve used an amber necklace on my teething baby and I swear up and down that the few times I forgot to put the necklace on again after a bath he’s ALWAYS more cranky. As soon as I put the necklace back on, he becomes his regular happy, smiley self.
And my baby doesn’t know the necklace is SUPPOSED to provide pain relief!
Still even if the amber’s effects ARE a placebo effect, I’ll take it! Better to trick my brain into helping me feel less pain than to put more prescription medication in my body!
Amber for the Whole Family
The girl in me was excited that these bracelets were both prettier and more fashionable than the heavy-duty wrist splints and the silver-lined wristbands I had been wearing. I found out that the more bracelets I wore on my wrist, the greater the benefit became. I tend to wear all the bracelets on my more painful hand, sometimes using one on my better hand.
I was so impressed with the effects of this therapeutic jewelry that I also bought a few necklaces for my other children. My kids all have trouble with weak stomachs and I found that wearing either amber necklaces or hazelwood necklaces (also sold by Inspired by Finn) when they are sick or traveling keeps them from throwing up.
We don’t EVER travel without them!
